What information do I collect?

When you visit my website, I may automatically collect some information about your device, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, and the pages you view. I use this information to improve my website and provide a better user experience.

Email contact form

When you contact me via email, I collect your name, email address, and any other information you choose to share with me. I use this information to respond to your inquiries and communicate with you.

I will not e-mail you in the future unless you have given me your consent.

Update notifications

When you subscribe to my update notifications, I collect your email address. I use this information to email you about new posts or other relevant content. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link at the bottom of any email.

Blog comments

If you leave comments on one of the articles I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

When you leave a comment on my web site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you are logged in to WordPress, I will also set up several cookies to save your login information. These cookies last for two days. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

In addition, an anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. After approval of your comment, your Gravatar profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. How do I protect your information?

I take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, or loss. I use secure servers and encryption technologies to store and transmit your data. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so I cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

Do I share your information with anyone?

I do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to any third parties. I may share your information with service providers who help me operate my website and send emails, such as hosting providers, email distribution and spam filtering platforms, or analytics tools. These service providers are bound by contractual obligations to keep your information confidential and use it only for the purposes for which I disclose it to them.

I will disclose you personal information if required by law.

How long do I retain your data?

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you unsubscribe from update notifications I will immediately delete your email.

I will keep your emails, submitted through the contact form for 6 months, or longer if you give my your explicit consent.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in my practices or applicable laws. If I make any significant changes, I will notify you by email or posting a notice on my website. Your continued use of my website after such notice constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
